PS, a member of phospholipids family, is the sole natural phospholipids controlling functional state of cell membrane key protein. It is a mixture of compounds, not a single substance. Existing in biomembrane of all animals, higher plant and microbe, PS is a major part of cell membrane phospholipids. It takes 10-20% of total phospholipids in brain of mammal and play a major role for adjustment of cell metabolic process.
PS can not be synthesized totally in human body. It could be only obtained after head base group of phosphatidylcholine (PC) & phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) have been replaced via 2 enzyme catalysis (phosphatidylserine synthesis enzyme1&2., PS1 and PS2)
Now PS is mainly from beef brain & soy. PS from soy lecithin contains polyunsaturated fatty acid. But PS from beef brain contains saturated fatty acid, monounsaturated fatty acid and docosahexenoic acid (DHA)
