Application & Function
Benfotiamine is a derivative of fat-soluble vitamin B1 and can be converted into active vitamin B1 in the body. Its bioavailability is 3.6 times that of water-soluble vitamin B1 and can reach 25 times in the brain. Clinically, it is used to treat diseases such as vitamin B1 deficiency, non-alcoholic Wernicke's encephalopathy, beriberi, and neuralgia related to metabolic disorders. Its dosage forms include tablets and granules.
Benfotiamine can regulate ribose metabolism to relieve central nervous system damage and intervene in diabetic complications caused by ribose metabolic disorders. The Phase II clinical trial of the FDA shows that it is effective for early Alzheimer's disease and has entered the Phase III clinical trial.Animal experiments have shown that benfotiamine can improve the learning and memory ability of APP/PS1 double transgenic model mice, reduce Aβ deposition in the brain and abnormal phosphorylation of tau protein, and the effect is significant when the dose reaches 200mg/kg.
Main Functions
1. Correcting vitamin B1 deficiency.: By increasing the level of thiamine in the body, alleviating symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, and peripheral neuritis caused by deficiency.
2. Improve diabetic neuropathy: Inhibit the oxidative stress and inflammatory responses caused by high blood sugar, and alleviate symptoms such as numbness and pain in the limbs caused by nerve damage.
3. Supports the function of nerve cells: Promotes energy metabolism and maintains the normal function of nerve cells. Some studies have shown that it has certain auxiliary effects on Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
4. Protect the cardiovascular system: Reduce the production of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and lower the risk of vascular endothelial damage.
5. Used for treating non-alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy.
6. Used for treating beriberi.
