Beta-Carotene (β – carotene)
Name Beta-Carotene (β – carotene)
Molecular Formula C40H56
Molecular Weight 536.88
CAS No. 7235-40-7
Characteristics
β - carotene (C40H56) is one of the carotenoids, an orange fat soluble compound that is the most common and stable natural pigment in nature. Belonging to the family of natural chemicals such as carotenoids or carotenoids. It is abundant in plants, giving fruits and vegetables a full yellow and orange color. The pure product appears as a red purple to dark red crystalline powder with a slight distinctive odor. The dilute solution of β - carotene appears orange yellow and is easily soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, and carbon disulfide. When the concentration of the solution increases, it turns orange, but due to the polarity of the solvent, it may slightly turn red. Unstable when exposed to oxygen, heat, and light. It is relatively stable in weak alkali.
β - carotene is widely used in the food industry, feed industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry.
Specification 1% - 96% HPLC
Function
1. Protect Eyes
Carotenoids are important nutrients necessary for the normal development and maintenance of human retina function. Carotenoid deficiency can lead to night blindness, making it difficult for patients to see clearly in dimly lit environments. Therefore, moderate intake of carotenoids is beneficial for protecting the eyes and helping us maintain normal retinal function.
2. Delaying Aging
The oxidative metabolites of the human body, free radicals, accelerate cellular aging, and carotenoids have strong antioxidant properties that can help eliminate free radicals in the body, thereby delaying aging.
3. Beauty and Skincare
Carotenoids can also help improve skin problems such as dryness, pigmentation, acne, and uneven skin tone through their antioxidant properties. Therefore, moderate intake of carotenoids can help people with beauty and skincare.
4. Enhance Physical Fitness
Carotenoids are mainly found in foods such as carrots, apples, and lotus roots. After consumption, they can be converted into vitamin A, which is an essential nutrient for the human body and helps to enhance physical fitness.
5. Prevent Skin
Eating foods containing carotenoids in moderation can help maintain normal metabolism of skin cells and tissues, avoiding excessive dryness and roughness of the skin.
6. Promote Growth and Development
Carotenoids can be converted into vitamin A in the body, which can promote the growth and development of children. When there is a lack of carotene, it can cause osteoporosis in children.
7. Moisturizing The Intestines and Promoting Bowel Movements
Carotenoids can promote the metabolism of cells in the body, clean the intestines, and promote bowel movements.
8. Improve The Body's Ability To Prevent and Combat Cancer
Carotenoids in carrots can enhance the production of antibodies by B cells in the human immune system, thus having the effect of improving human immunity. Carotenoids can also increase the number of natural killer cells, eliminate infected cells and cancer cells in the body. Research by domestic and foreign experts has confirmed that carrots do have anti-cancer and anti-cancer effects.
