Rutin
Rutin, also known as Vitamin P, with a molecular formula of C27H30O16, is a natural flavonoid glycoside that belongs to the flavonol glycosides widely present in plants. The two glycosides are glucose and xylose.
Rutin cannot be synthesized by the human body and must be consumed from food. It mainly comes from ingredients such as apricots, dates, cherries, orange peels, and citrus fruits, with Sophora japonica rice and buckwheat flowers being particularly rich in content. The Rutin mainly extracted from Sophora japonica flower, which appears as a light yellow or light green crystalline powder. It is soluble in pyridine, formyl, and alkaline solutions, slightly soluble in ethanol, acetone, and ethyl acetate, and almost insoluble in chloroform, ether, benzene, carbon disulfide, and petroleum ether. Has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti allergic, antiviral and other effects.

The Main Health Function of Rutin
1. Antioxidant effect
Rutin can effectively eliminate free radicals and reduce cell damage. Research has shown that rutin can reduce oxidative stress levels in the body and help prevent diseases related to free radicals, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.
2. Anti inflammatory effect
Rutin reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. In experiments, rutin has shown inhibitory effects on various inflammatory markers and has the potential to be used for the treatment of inflammation related diseases.
3. Improve cardiovascular health
Rutin helps maintain normal vascular function, increase the resistance of capillaries, reduce capillary fragility, and thus reduce the risk of bleeding. Rutin may also improve circulatory health by regulating blood lipid levels and dilating blood vessels.
4. Protecting the nervous system
Research has found that rutin has a certain neuroprotective effect, which can improve cognitive function and combat the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
5. Anticoagulant effect
Rutin can inhibit platelet aggregation, reduce blood viscosity, and provide some help in preventing thrombosis.
6. Lower blood pressure
Rutin helps to lower blood pressure levels in hypertensive patients by dilating blood vessels and reducing peripheral vascular resistance.
7. Anti acute pancreatitis
Rutin can effectively prevent the occurrence of hypocalcemia and reduce the Ca2+concentration in pancreatic tissue. Research has found that rutin can increase the content of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in pancreatic tissue of rats, suggesting that rutin may have inhibitory effects on the release and activation of PLA2 in pancreatic tissue; Rutin can effectively prevent the occurrence of hypocalcemia in AP rats, possibly by blocking Ca2+influx and reducing Ca2+overload in pancreatic tissue cells, thereby alleviating the pathophysiological damage to AP.
8. Sunscreen and skincare
Rutin has a strong absorption effect on ultraviolet rays and X-rays, making it a natural sunscreen and one of the choices for beauty conscious women. Nowadays, many sunscreen products add rutin ingredients.
